| The Stewart Community is a single room occupancy,
four-story facility available to
upper-level undergraduates and graduate students. Amenities include washer and dryer units on each floor. Also
provided are a senior seminar room, group project room and main desk snack bar.
MAY L. STEWART

The Stewart Community was named after May L.
Stewart, a faculty member at Oshkosh from 1926-1960. Stewart
received her master's degree in 1923 from the University of
Chicago. During her 34 years at Oshkosh, she was supervisor
of student teaching in the Division of Rural Education. Stewart
went abroad to observe rural education in Mexico, Canada,
Europe and South America. She lived her philosophy of life:
"A successful person is one who can leave every place
a little better than they found it." She died on December
13, 1965, the very evening the Stewart Community was dedicated
